What is a tomini tang?
Ctenochaetus tomini tang, commonly known as Tomini surgeonfish, flame fin tang, bristletooth tomini tang is a popular saltwater fish among marine aquarists.
Mature fish has a blue tail fin, and its dorsal and anal fins have a deeper yellow-orange color on the edges and are tipped with a golden-yellow hue. In the area above the eyes tomini tang has small golden flecks.
Tomini tangs are living of the tropical waters of the central and West Pacific region from Indonesia to the Australia.
Diseases and aggressive behaviour of a tomini tang
Tomini tangs are relatively easy to care for amongst other tangs species. It can be aggressive towards other surgeonfish or tank mates. If there are more fish of the other tang species in the aquarium, they will establish a hierarchy which will reduce aggression. It’s worth letting in the generations in order from the least to the most aggressive ones.
What do tomini tangs eat?
Like other Acanthuridae, tomini tangs like plant food, but also will eat meaty foods. If we don’t have marine algae on the live rock in our reef tank, then, in addition to frozen foods such as mysis or artemia, we should provide it with an algae veggie clip, which the fish will nibble on. Due to its growing large size, the tomini tang fish should be provided with a larger tank.

Reefkeeping has been my passion for over 10 years now. I love learning. The hobby has taught me many valuable lessons, patience being the best example. Combining work and passion is my path. I run Crazy Coral, a marine aquarium shop, for a number of years. Building this business from the scratch I learnt from my own mistakes at a heavy cost.
Later I managed a project aimed at development of methods for quick growth of Corals in non-natural conditions. The project was carried out by Get Sales, Poland. Presently, I am responsible for distribution strategy at Reef Factory, of which I am a co-founder. The company produces smart devices for marine aquaristics. The last projects I have been involved in are Social Reef and ReefPedia.
